Formula E sporting regulations for Season 9

Formula E, FIA has revealed some adjustments to its sports regulations as it prepares for its upcoming Season 9. Before Season 9, which will see the start of the Gen3 era of Formula E, new technology and racing forms have been added to the rules of the game. The lap replacement time is one of the peculiarities.

The change for the upcoming season will be the race structure, as opposed to the current 45 minutes plus one-lap model. In this regard, it is significant to highlight that races will be run in laps rather than over a predetermined amount of time in formula e championships. Instead, E-Prix will be based on a predetermined number of laps, similar to how F1 races are conducted. Safety Car and Full Course Yellow race interruptions will now be made up for with additional runs instead of the race time function in order to preserve consistency with the transition to laps.

ATTACK CHARGE

The "Attack Charge" will be used for a few races later in Season 9 in relation to the single-seaters' power source, according to Formula E.

The revolutionary EV battery and charging capabilities that the electric series and the FIA have been developing with essential technological partners will allow the new smaller, quicker, and lighter Gen3 vehicles to receive an energy boost during the race. Today's most advanced EV battery was created because of this partnership, and it can now receive 4 kWh of energy in 30 seconds from a 600kW booster.

In accordance with the new charging rules, Formula E has decided that an attack halt must be made for 30 seconds during a predetermined time during the race. This will unlock two enhanced attack mode periods. These will be used later in the competition when Gen3 Formula E cars’ starting power rises from 300kW to 350kW.

BEGINNER PLATFORM

Another rule imposed by Formula E states that each team must take part in at least two Free Practice 1 sessions throughout the season with a driver who has never competed in a championship race. The objective is to advance the team's cause and provide aspiring drivers a chance to experience the unique characteristics of Formula E racing.

According to Jamie Reigle, CEO of Formula E, everything Formula E set out to do since its establishment in 2014 is now realized with the advent of the Gen3 era.

There has been a lot of news on the next championship, which will debut on January 14, 2023, with the Mexico City E-Prix. Alberto Longo, co-founder and chief championship officer of the international automobile association Formula E, most eloquently summarises these trends. "We are establishing the ideal circumstances for the top drivers and teams to excel and triumph. Teams may now organise their racing strategy to a greater extent thanks to the switch to laps. The introduction of the Attack Charge in the races later in the season will add a whole new dimension to the racing strategy for the teams and interest for the fans. We are also preparing for the future with the opportunity for new drivers in the championship to take their seats and show what they can do."
